I don’t need alarm clock to wake me up anymore, I know when
sun is up. When I woke up today, naturally my hand went to side table to find
my glasses, I put those on and my vision became clear. Still there is something
not right or something I’m missing or maybe I’m forgetting something. Aging has
really influenced my memory.
Thinking of same I went to front porch picked up
the newspaper, checked mail box, nothing. He used to give me love letters and
gifts through that mail box on our… oh dear… I hurriedly opened the scrolled
newspaper. It’s __ of July. Oh my my. I just figured out what was missing. 46
years ago on this precise day I said YES.
“We must celebrate” I said, kissing his engagement ring (which
I’ve been wearing around my neck for past 6 years). How about his favorite
‘roasted chicken’? That reminded me of our first anniversary when I couldn’t
cook. I had burned the whole chicken while trying cooking. How typical of me. That
day he sang me Elton John’s Your Song. He wasn’t very blessed in that area, but
it was melodious than original. He was good at drawing though. You see all
those framed sketches of me hanging on wall, yes, he drew them.
He knew how to love. He knew all my birthmarks, each of
them, all of them. He used to write me love letters but never handed me those
directly, he would keep them in mail box instead. Those letters described our
love affair in a way that whenever I read them, they take me to places I’ve
never been before. His idea of romance was gazing stars together at deep dark
night. So we would go up on the roof when night is darkest n we used to lie
down, holding hands and gazing stars until they disappeared in sunlight.
But now he has become a star. He watches me from up there.
You see, he still loves me. In the night when I look at him up in the sky, that
star blinks, he still winks at me.
